Design SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Is Now Page Relevancy
Want to know how search engines find your website? Sure you do. Well the truth of the matter is that Google has already publicly stated that they no longer use META to determine website placement. What this means is that if you buy a software or a hire a company to perform SEO and they focus on META your wasting your money.
Meta Tags are HTML source code for a particular web page that tells information about the page being viewed but the only Meta visible to the visitor is the Meta Title which can be seen in the top left of the web browser itself.
Example: If you look at www.toe-nail-fungus.ca you will see that in the top left corner of the browser it reads "Toenail Fungus Cures" so when visitors are looking for cure for their toenail fungus they type this key word into the search engine, it reads the meta title along with other meta data and then displays the page.
This is not the case anymore even though it will still display the Meta title, this doesn’t mean that the search engine selected this site based on its meta. Keep in mind the Meta is still important because if you don't follow basic Meta rules search engines will not select you. Example: if your Meta title is too long search engines cannot read it all so it may not be relevant.
Here Are Some Design SEO Ground Rules For Meta Optimization
Meta Title - It used to be 12 words max but now it should be 6 words or shorter. It should contain a keyword phrase that is informative like our example above for "Toenail Fungus Cures". When you read this Meta title do you know what the site if for? Sure you do and so do search engines, it's very clear but very short.
Meta Description - Should be under 22 words and contains a few keyword phrases that are informative. At least one phrase should address a key benefit. Example: "Toenail fungus cures that work. Stop your nail fungus infections with a trusted nail fungus remedy". Now you have a really good understanding what this site sells and these keyword phrases are very relevant to the site.
Meta Keywords - No more then 8 keywords and of course make sure they are relevant to your site. Even though Google does ignore these keywords other indexes do use them.
Search Engine Optimization is done by keyword relevancy nowadays, this is how Google determines if your site is most relevant to the key words being searched for. So the "Pick Me" concept works based on the search engines calculation of page relevancy and it takes numerous things into consideration including design SEO.
Keywords Density - This is a measure of how often a word appears in the copy (text) on a web page as a percentage of all the words on the same page. What this means is that whatever the page is about it must be relevant to the keyword being searched for therefore if your keyword density is high then your page will have a higher relevancy. This can backfire if you cram too many keywords into the same page as search engines consider this Spam and they won't list your site. Be reasonable when using your key words, make sure your page reads reasonable and visitors can understand it.
Basic rules for design SEO for keywords
Make sure every page is at least 100 words or more and the keyword phrase density is no more the 4%. It has to make sense when your visitors read it and if you find you cannot get a 4% density without keyword cramming then back off a bit.
When creating a page there are three main areas you need to make sure you have:
Opening Paragraph - This should be the top 15% of the words on the page and have a keyword density of 4%. Here you want to explain why your product, service, website is a good thing and why it will solve the issue your visitor is looking for.
Main Body Paragraphs - This needs to be 70% of the text (copy) on the page and have a keyword density of 4%. In this section you will explain about your product, service, website in more detail. Example: How and why or even list a few featured products etc.
Concluding Paragraph - This should be the bottom 15% of the words on the page and have a keyword density of 4%. Wrap up with a few good offers for other information you may have the can help them.
Image Alt Tags for Design SEO
The pictures you use on your website need to have Alt Tags (Descriptions). What this does is not only helps you optimize your webpage better but if a visitor places the pointer or cursor over the picture a keyword describing the picture will appear. This tells search engines that everything on your page is relevant to your website theme. There are many website building tools and people that build webpages themselves that do not put these Atl tags in making your website a better design SEO website then theirs.
